Graffitti artist wins Turner Prize!

Sort of.

Glasgow based artist Richard Wright has won the 2009 Turner Prize for his ethereal, temporary gold-leaf wall painting.

Richard Wright's painting on show as part of the Turner prize exhibition at Tate Britain

I was surprised that Roger Hiorns didn’t win for his astonishing “Seizure project, but artists tend to win for their show in the Tate not their nominated exhibition. From what I’ve seen and heard about the current Turner Prize show, Wright’s work seems to be the stand out contribution.

As I haven’t managed to get along to the show I’m not in a position to pass judgement so it would only be right to point you in the direction of people who have.
